About Mimica
At Mimica, we’re developing an award-winning label, called Bump, that tells you exactly when food spoils, based on storage conditions. Our mission is to radically reduce unnecessary food waste caused by the current expiry date system. We have launched our first product, the Bump Cap, and are in the customer trialling stage of our Bump Tag product.
The role
Mimica is seeking a self-motivated individual who loves making and testing prototypes and has an eye for precision to support the R&D and assembly process of our smart labels. As a small but growing dynamic mission-focused company, this role involves working closely with the product team to assist measuring ingredients, assembling parts, checking quality, and working closely with the product team to troubleshoot and make suggestions. Full support will be provided.
What you'll do
Accurate measurement of powdered and liquid ingredients
Dosing/filling tiny amounts using pipettes (ml and ul)
Heat-seal plastic parts.
Assemble products carefully by hand.
Running quality control checks on supplies, mid-process and finished product to meet precise tolerances (±0.2mm target)
Performing product testing and recording results effectively
Working with product team to troubleshoot any problems or issues
Suggesting product and process improvements
Hands on order fulfilment tasks, including careful packaging and ensuring correct paperwork is included in package
You
This is ideal for someone with a background in chemistry, engineering, design engineering, or similar technical discipline, who loves precision, problem-solving and perfecting product performance.

You should have
Precise dexterity and familiarity with using manual manufacturing tools
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high quality, accurate work
Self-motivated and able to work to given targets
Good ability to follow written, verbal and visual instructions to specifications
Strong time-management and organisational skills
Good level of spoken and written English to be able to clearly communicate and report back to the product team
A methodical and consistent approach to following production instructions and keeping accurate records
Responsible attitude towards health & safety in the use of hazardous tools
A problem-solving mindset in collaboration with a team

The innovation internship is financially supported based on your affiliation programme:
EIC Pathfinder researchers will be funded by the Pathfinder grant (plus a mobility allowance for 3 months maximum);
ERC researchers involved in funded projects will receive a flat monthly reimbursement by InnoNext for 3 months maximum.
EIT participants will receive a flat monthly reimbursement by InnoNext for 6 months maximum, subject to availability of funds
MSCA, HE Research Infrastructures and EIC Transition participants will be covered by their respective programmes, under specific agreement.

Location
Our technical team is based at our production and R&D centre in Wrexham, North Wales. You may also travel to London to visit the rest of the team.
