The clever way to know it’s fresh!

Bump Tag for meat and fish.jpg

Bump Tag

Bump, created by Mimica, is a temperature-sensitive tag providing an accurate, real-time indication of the freshness of your packaged meat or fish. By demonstrating the true longevity of the product rather than relying on the worst-case scenario, as the printed expiry dates do, we help you make the most of your purchase and reduce unnecessary waste!

Fight Waste

Eat to the last mouthful, leaving nothing to waste.

Food Safety

Bump warns if poor storage has shortened expiry date.

How to use the Bump Tag?

Bump is tactile - swipe it with a little pressure, in a circular motion or side to side.

If it feels firm and smooth, the product is fresh and good to enjoy.

If you start to feel pointy bumps, the product should no longer be consumed.

FAQ

  • Our spoilage indicator relies on a unique temperature-sensitive plant-based gel that is completely food-safe.

  • Our Bump Tag is made from recycled and recyclable high quality plastic, and it has been designed to be recycled on pack. We have worked with the packaging teams at our customers and consulted with the large recycling companies in the UK to material-match our Bump Tag to the packages they will integrate into, in order to not affect recyclability.

  • Food waste generates 248x more carbon emissions than plastic waste (Zero Waste Scotland), so using the Bump Tag to help you fight food waste will offset the small impact of the added plastic material.

  • No, the use-by date is there for your safety. Follow whatever comes first - bumps or expiry date. We are working together with brands and producers to safely extend expiry dates. This extension is reflected in the new printed date, and will not affect the quality or safety of your food.

  • Bump Tag is temperature-sensitive and responds to the conditions you store your food in. The gel inside the tag degrades at the same rate as the food spoils. In this process the gel liquifies revealing the bumps underneath. The gel is matched to the specific product group. The better you store your food, keeping it chilled whenever possible, longer it will last.

  • If you decide to freeze food with a Bump Tag on it, follow the FSA guidelines and consume the product within 24 hours of defrosting. Unfortunately, freezing the Bump Tag affects its accuracy, so please don’t use it as an indicator after freezing.
